The University of Istenhátamögött was founded in 2004 in the town of Istenhátamögött, Pest county, Hungary. Many early critics pointed to the small population of the town as a reason to move the university elsewhere. Today, it is best known for its contributions to the field of Biotechnology, specifically bio-artificial intelligence and genetic engineering. The large amount of recieved government founding has been discussed as a point of criticism by several news outlets in Hungarian media.

Controversies

Student Dissapearances

In the two years after operations began, three female students were reported missing. According to police reports, none of the girls knew each other. Their names have not been relased to the public. All three of them were students of the Department of Natural Sciences. One of the girls reportedly suffered from learning difficulties and autism spectrum disorder. Only one of them was ever found by authorities, in 2006. These incidents are a subject of much speculations by the hungarian public.

Freshman camp incident of 2024

The student council of The University of Istenhátamögött recieved much media backlash after it was reported that the freshman attending their annual late summer event were subjected to humiliating games, such as being forced to consume a banana in a suggestive manner, sleep deprivation, and confescation of personal items such as medicine, and personal electronics. The University has since issued an apology. In response, other universities around Hungary began to ban questionable camp practices, such as vulgar songs, like the one featuring coitus preformed in a forest that was previously customary at the University of Debrecen.
